Property Description

Kinlochlaich House is a listed building of the 17th and 18th centuries set in its own beautiful gardens on the south facing slopes of the Appin hills, close to the sea with views to the mountains. You can stay in self contained apartments in the historic country house or in one of two cottages in the traditional buildings adjacent to the main house.

Etive Cottage and Corrie Apartment sleep 2

Creran and Linnhe Apartments sleep 4

Laich Cottage sleeps 5.

The Hutchison family live and work in the house and grounds and therefore the cottages and apartments are open all year round. You are welcome to stay for as little as 2 nights during the Autumn, Winter and Spring.

All our properties are comfortable and well equipped and we are on hand to answer any queries or help you plan your various activities.

The Appin area, which includes the picturesque village of Port Appin, is famous for romantic Castle Stalker (see photo above), and for scenes of R.L.Stevenson’s ‘Kidnapped’. It is also an area rich in animal, bird and plant life.

There is plenty to explore locally including walking and cycling trips to the historic island of Lismore. Pony trekking is available all year round, water sports in the summer and golf and fishing nearby.

In the village you will find a garage, craft shop, Post Office and Community Cooperative general shop. Local hotels, pubs and restaurants offer meals if you choose to eat out.

The grounds of Kinlochlaich House include a fine walled garden, where you will find Scotland’s leading specialist Garden Plant Centre. We grow our own fruit and vegetables and you may purchase whatever is in season.

We have a tennis court and table tennis pavilion and there are racquets and bats for your use. There are rope swings for children and lots of space in which to play games, sunbathe(!) or barbecue.

Glencoe is a short drive away, with wonderful walking in the long days of summer or for ice climbing and skiing in the winter. You may like to climb Ben Nevis, Scotland’s highest mountain, drive up Loch Ness or explore the Road to the Isles. Oban is the centre for ferry cruises, including to Mull, Iona, Fingal’s cave, 10 castles, Tiree. You can visit many of the other ‘Glorious Gardens of Argyll and Bute’. Oban, to the South, and Fort William, to the North, offer holiday shopping, supermarkets and restaurants and each have a whisky distillery which you can visit.
